A new Uptown boutique will host an open house from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at 46 N. State St.
Co-owner Michael Taylor said the Lola Belle Boutique sells "tasteful and upscale lingerie" for women.
She said she and her cousin, Shannon Huffer, chose the Uptown location because of the area's healthy business environment.
"We did some market research and we really liked the Uptown Westerville area," Taylor said. "We talked to a lot of the local merchants who liked the neighborhood, and we decided it would be a very good place to start up shop. We just liked how very unique the areas is, and it'll also be nice being so close to the Otterbein College foot traffic."
Taylor said the merchandise available at the Lola Belle Boutique will include a vintage-style Marilyn Monroe line, as well as clothing items from the Juicy Couture line and handmade items such s scarves, necklaces, bracelets, brooches and other jewelry.
"All our items have been carefully handpicked by us, and we're also looking at carrying a few bath and body items, which we're looking to expand upon," she said.
Taylor said she and Huffer decided to go into business about two months ago, when they each started searching for new career paths.
"Shannon and her husband own a restoration business and I was a teacher, but I was really looking for something to be my own, something that I could enjoy," she said.
The two women chose to go into retail lingerie because "it was the only thing we could agree on," Taylor joked. The business was named after the cousins' grandmother, who recently passed away.
Taylor said the store's tentative hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The two women are currently working on a Web site that could eventually include online ordering.
